Isla Maciel, que en realidad no es una isla, es un barrio ubicado en Dock Sud, la zona portuaria de Buenos Aires. A fines del siglo XIX el Río de la Plata se convirtió en una entrada clave hacia el interior del continente Americano, absorbiendo una gran ola inmigratoria de Europa y países aledaños. Precisamente en Dock Sud empezaron a confluir culturas oriundas de España, Italia, ex-Yugoslavia y Polonia, entre otras. Durante los últimos cincuenta años comunidades de Brasil, Bolivia, Uruguay, Perú y Cabo Verde se instalaron en la zona, creando un contexto multicultural.
La obra se encuentra en la entrada de Isla Maciel. El día que empecé a trabajar se acercaron seis personas de la barra de San Telmo, equipo de fútbol de la primera C con base en Isla Maciel. Su propuesta era que pinte el escudo del equipo en algún lugar de la pared. Les respondí que iba a hacerlo si me ayudaban a trabajar. Luego de una charla dubitativa, cada uno tomó un rodillo y compartimos la calurosa tarde pintando el muro.
El último día de trabajo mucha gente me preguntó por qué no había pintado la bandera Argentina. Pienso que no hacía falta su representación, ya que la obra habla de la historia inmigratoria del país. Por otro lado, el semicírculo amarillo es una analogía del Sol, símbolo presente en la bandera argentina.
En la obra pueden verse las banderas de cada país nombrado, unidas y de algún modo, “aterrizando” en el suelo.
Por último, en la esquina superior derecha se puede observar el escudo del Club Atlético San Telmo.

Isla Maciel, which is not actually an island, is a neighborhood in the southern part of Buenos Aires, more precisely in Dock Sud, the port area of ​​the city. At the end of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th century different cultures from Spain, Italy, the former Yugoslavia and Poland converged in this zone. They settled on the banks of the Riachuelo river, at the time enable to swim and nowadays completely contaminated. It quickly became a multicultural region and one of the most important immigration entrances into the American continent.
In the last fifty years different communities settled in the area, such as Brazil, Bolivia, Uruguay, Perú and Republic of Cabo Verde.
The artwork is located right at the entrance of the neighborhood. The day I started to work six supporters of San Telmo football club came to the wall and proposed me to paint the club shield somewhere in the wall. I answered that I was going to do it if they helped me to work. Club Atlético San Telmo plays in the fourth national league division and the stadium is located in Isla Maciel, strongly rooted in Dock Sud culture. After a hesitant moment, each man took a roller and started to work. We shared together the hot and sunny day.
During the last day a lot of people asked me about the absence of the Argentina flag. What I think is that there was no need for his representation. This work talks about the country immigration history. I think that the yellow circle is an analogy of the Sun, a symbol present in Argentina flag that fulfills the function of “unifying element”.
In the artwork you can see the flags of each country named below, united and in somehow, “landing” on the ground. Finally, in the upper right corner you can see the shield of Club Atlético San Telmo.

Siglo XXI, Ucrania y Rusia están en guerra
La obra muestra cuatro círculos que representan diagramas y dos muestrarios que indican los colores utilizados en este mural.
Según determinadas estadísticas estudiadas a partir de diversas fuentes de información oficiales y no oficiales y por propia deducción in-situ, el primer diagrama de color azul y rojo representa a la población de Ucrania. El azul simboliza a los individuos pro-Ucrania y el rojo a los individuos pro-Rusia.
El segundo diagrama presenta ocho octavos del mismo tamaño en colores primarios, secundarios, blanco y negro, cada uno ordenados frente a frente con su complementario. Esta conjunción representa la convivencia, demostrando que el antagonismo es una condición inevitable para la vida. Por otro lado, representa una pizza de ocho sabores que alude a la diversidad.
El tercer diagrama es un “medidor de violencia”. El azul puro y su escala de tonos situados en la cima del círculo simbolizan a las energías más livianas relativas a una situación de paz, mientras que el rojo puro y sus variantes situados en la base del círculo representan una situación de mayor violencia y a energías más pesadas.
El cuarto diagrama representa a los individuos que se oponen a la guerra y a la violencia. Por consiguiente, estos se encuentran en contacto directo con “la luz” en comparación a los que sí apoyan la guerra y la violencia. Este último diagrama simboliza al Sol, 100% pleno de color y lleno de “ la luz”.
Sin embargo, los diagramas no son más que hermosas formas geométricas que estudian números en determinado contexto y no representan a la guerra, mucho menos a la realidad.
La realidad es que hay una guerra.

21st century, Ukraine and Russia are at war
This artwork shows four circles and two color swatches showing the palette used in the mural.
According to certain statistics drawn from both oficial and non official sources of information and from personal conclusions reached in-situ through conversations, the first blue and red pie chart represents the people of Ukraine. Blue symbolizes pro-Ukranian individuals and red symbolizes pro-Russian individuals.
The second diagram shows eight eighths in primary, secondary, black and white colors, each one laid face to face with its complementary. This conjunction represents coexistence, proving that antagonism is an inevitable condition for life. Moreover, it also represents a pizza with eight flavors, alluding to diversity.
The third diagram is a “violence calculator”. Pure blue and its gradient symbolize a light energy related to a peaceful situation. The pure red and its scale refer to a heavier energy related to violence.
The fourth diagram symbolizes the Sun, 100% full of color and full of “the light”. It represents those individuals who oppose war and violence. They are therefore in direct contact with “the light” compared to those who do support war and violence.
However, diagrams are beautiful geometric shapes that study numbers in a given context and do not represent war or violence, neither reality.
The reality is that there is a war.

Esta obra refleja el negocio de la guerra escondido detrás de la belleza de las banderas. Representa el círculo vicioso construido por individuos no tan distintos entre sí apuntándose con un arma en una ciudad construida por banderas: Reino Unido, China, Rusia, Francia, Alemania y Estados Unidos, principales productores de armamento en el mundo. En la cima se encuentra la bandera de la Organización de las Naciones Unidas. Excepto Alemania, sorpresivamente estos países son los miembros permanentes del Consejo de Seguridad de la ONU.

This work reflects the war business hidden behind the beauty of flags. It represents the vicious circle constructed by similar individuals carrying guns and pointing each other in a city builded by flags: United Kingdom, China, Russia, France, Germany and the United States. These are the principal worldwide weapon producers. On top there is the United Nations flag. Surprisingly, appart from Germany, these countries are the permanent members of the United Nations Security Council.
