La Boca, uno de los barrios más antiguos de la ciudad, está ubicado en el puerto, donde se fundó la primera Buenos Aires en el siglo XVI. A fines del siglo XIX el Río de la Plata se convirtió en una entrada clave hacia el interior del continente americano, absorbiendo una gran ola inmigratoria de Europa y países aledaños. Aquí empezaron a confluir diversas culturas, oriundas principalmente de ciudades como Génova, Italia y Galicia, España. El barrio se erigió con chapa, madera, pintura sobrante de los barcos y posteriormente con hormigón y cemento, dando lugar a diferentes estilos arquitectónicos, como las casas conventillo, la arquitectura italianizante y las típicas molduras y ornamentos porteños.
El 3 de abril de 1905 nació el Club Atlético Boca Juniors, apodado “Xeneizes”, cuya etimología proviene de la palabra “genovés”. Cuenta la leyenda que los colores fueron elegidos por Juan Rafael Brichetto, operador de la dársena sur del puerto. Brichetto propuso adoptar los colores de la bandera del primer buque que apareciera a la mañana siguiente. El navío que arribó flameaba una bandera Sueca, por lo tanto, el azul y el amarillo dieron identidad al club de fútbol.
Esta casa fue construida en 1895 por genoveses. Aquí fundaron una panadería con un horno de 7 m de diámetro, aún en funcionamiento. Los dueños actuales descienden de familia gallega, arribada al país en la década del ´40.
Esta obra es una intento de refrescar y reafirmar la historia e identidad del barrio en tiempos de renovación urbana. Los escudos representan al barrio de La Boca, la ciudad de Génova, la comunidad autónoma de Galicia, el Club Atlético Boca Juniors y la bandera representa a Suecia.

La Boca, one of the oldest neighborhoods, is located in the port, where the first Buenos Aires was founded in the 16th century. In the late 19th century the River Plate became one of the most important gateways into the American continent, welcoming a large wave of europeans and nearby countries. Different cultures settled in the area, mainly from cities like Génova, Italy and Galicia, Spain. The neighborhood was built out with metal, wood, leftover paint from the ships and later on with concrete and cement, leading to different architecture styles such as tenement houses or typical Buenos Aires ornamentations and moldings.
Club Atlético Boca Juniors was founded on April 3, 1905 and nicknamed “Xeneizes”, whose etymology comes from the word “genovese”. According to the legend, the colors were chosen by Juan Carlos Brichetto, one of the port bridges operator. He proposed to adopt the colors of the flag of the first ship that appeared the next morning. A swedish flag was waving in the first ship he saw, therefore blue and yellow gave identity to the football club.
This house was built in 1895 by genoveses. They founded a bakery with a 7 m diameter oven in the ground floor, nowadays still working. The current owners are descendents from a galician family that arrived to the country in the 40´s.
This artwork is an attempt to refresh and reinforce the history and identity of the neighborhood in a period of urban renewal. The shields represent the neighborhood of La Boca, the city of Génova, the Autonomous Community of Galicia, the Club Atlético Boca Juniors and the flag represents Sweden.
